## Purpose

The Knowledge Base page allows customers to build and manage a structured fact bank of claims organized into content pillars. This fact bank powers Athena's AI fact verification and ensures the AI relies on a curated, accurate foundation of information about your business.

Customers can populate their knowledge base from various sources: uploading documents, pasting text, adding URLs to an internal link bank, or pulling from published articles in the Content Hub. Once claims are extracted, users review, approve, and categorize them into "pillars" so Athena can accurately evaluate content coverage and detect AI-generated discrepancies.

## What's on the page

### Page Header

Displays the page title and the primary top-level action buttons: a prompt to review pending claims (if any exist), a button to start verifying facts, and a dropdown menu to add new knowledge.

### Pillars Tab

Shows the core organizational structure of your fact bank. Pillars (or topics) group related claims together.

**Pillars Table**
Lists all knowledge base pillars with selection checkboxes and coverage data.

* **(checkbox)**: Select/deselect this pillar for bulk actions.
* **Pillar**: Name and description of the pillar. Shows an orange "N pending" badge if claims await review. *Tooltip: "Content pillars that group related claims and measure content coverage"*
* **Content coverage**: A visual progress bar showing what fraction of the pillar's approved claims are already covered by existing site content. *Tooltip: "Percentage of a pillar's claims covered by your existing content"*

### Internal Links Tab

Shows all internal pages from your site that have been added to the link bank for monitoring and claim extraction.

**Internal Links Table**
Lists all tracked internal pages with their claim counts and scrape status.

* **(checkbox)**: Select/deselect this link for bulk actions.
* **URL**: The normalized URL of the internal page. Clicking the URL opens the page in a new tab.
* **Title**: The page title scraped from the URL.
* **Claims**: The number of claims extracted from this page. Clicking this badge opens a dialog showing those specific claims.
* **Status**: The current processing status of the link (e.g., finished, scraped, pending, failed).

### Empty State

If no pillars and no internal links exist yet, the page displays a "No knowledge yet" message and provides a button to automatically discover pillars relevant to your website.

### Charts

* **Content Coverage Bar**: A horizontal progress bar in the Pillars table. The width represents the coverage percentage (0–100%), showing at a glance what fraction of a pillar's approved claims are already covered by existing site content.

### Filters

* **Pillars / Internal links tab switcher**: Switches the main table between the Pillars view and the Internal Links view.
* **All / Pending / Approved filter**: Located inside the Pillar Detail dialog. Filters the claims list within a pillar to show all claims, only pending claims, or only approved claims.

### Drilldowns

* **Clicking a pillar row**: Opens the **Pillar Detail dialog (modal)**. This view contains tabs for Claims, Pages, Document, and Matching Articles for that specific pillar, along with claim review actions and add-knowledge options.
* **Clicking the claims badge on an internal link**: Opens the **Source Link Claims dialog (modal)**. Shows all claims extracted from that link, grouped by linked pillar, with options to delete claims.
* **Clicking 'Review N pending'**: Navigates directly to the `/knowledge-base/review` page to review the full queue of pending claims.
* **Clicking 'Verify facts'**: Opens the Verify Facts modal, allowing you to select pillars and start a fact-verification analysis run.
* **Starting verification in the Verify Facts dialog**: Redirects you to the `/oracle` page to view the AI analysis runs.
* **Clicking a claim's source URL** (in the Claim Detail dialog) or **open-link icon** (on an internal link URL): Opens the source page in a new browser tab.
* **Clicking 'View AI response'** (in the Claim Detail dialog): Opens the Oracle response view to show the AI response that sourced the claim.

## Data shown

* **Pillars and claims**: Sourced from your active website's knowledge base. Claims represent verified or pending facts Athena has gathered about your business.
* **Internal pages**: Tracked in your link bank for the active website, allowing Athena to monitor them and extract future claims.
* **Content Hub articles**: Pulls published articles you have written inside the Athena Content Hub to seed the knowledge base.
* **Claim-content coverage matches**: Computed dynamically by the coverage analysis workflow to grade how well your website's actual content covers your documented pillars.
* **Pending claim count**: Real-time count of claims waiting for human approval.

## Empty, loading, and error states

* **Empty**: When no pillars and no internal links exist, the page shows a large "No knowledge yet" message with a prompt to **Discover pillars**. If you have pillars but no links (or vice versa), the empty tab will show a simple "No pillars yet" or "No internal links yet" message.
* **Loading**: Skeleton (placeholder) rows animate in the table while the data loads. Dialogs also display skeleton lines while their specific data fetches.
* **Error**:
  * If your subscription plan cannot be verified (e.g., a billing service outage), an error screen stating "Something went wrong" or "Couldn't verify access" appears with a **Retry** button.
  * If your current subscription plan does not include Knowledge Base access, a "locked" screen will appear indicating you need to upgrade.

## Linked from / links to

* **Linked from**: The main sidebar navigation (under the "Knowledge Base" item) and from Oracle or Verify Facts flows that link back to the KB review queue.
* **Links to**: The `/knowledge-base/review` page (when reviewing pending claims) and the `/oracle` page (when starting a fact verification run).

## Common support questions

**Why can't I delete a claim or an internal link?**
Deleting claims and internal links permanently removes data from the knowledge base. For security and data integrity, this action is restricted to organization admins only. Non-admin team members will see an error if they try to delete them.

**What does the Content coverage bar mean?**
The Content coverage bar shows you the percentage of a pillar's *approved* claims that are already discussed or covered by your website's existing content. It helps you identify gaps in your content strategy.

**Why don't I see my pending links in the Internal Links table?**
Links that have a status of "pending" (meaning they are waiting to be scraped and processed) are hidden from the UI because no actions can be taken on them yet. They will automatically appear in the table once they are successfully scraped or have claims extracted.

**Does importing from the Content Hub cost credits?**
Yes. Extracting claims from your published Content Hub articles costs credits. The cost is calculated as 1 credit per batch of 10 articles. The Bootstrap dialog will display the exact credit cost before you confirm the action.

**Where do my claims go after auto-research finishes?**
Claims found during auto-research are inserted into the fact bank as "pending". They must be manually reviewed and approved before they are published to the topic document and used as the ground truth for fact-checking.

**Why is the "Verify facts" button grayed out or unavailable for some pillars?**
To run a verification analysis, a pillar must be in a "published" status and contain at least one *approved* claim. If a pillar only contains pending claims, or has no claims at all, it cannot be used for verification yet.
