> Show AI-generated proactive insights and content opportunities for a website, letting users act on, resolve, or discard them.

## Purpose

The Insights page provides actionable, AI-generated recommendations based on your website's search performance, competitor movements, and content gaps. Instead of requiring you to hunt through analytics to figure out what to do next, this page proactively surfaces prioritized tasks that can grow your visibility.

It is split into two main sections: **Insights** (which covers prompt performance, technical changes, and competitor shifts) and **Content opportunities** (which recommends specific topics for new or optimized articles). Customers use this page as a daily or weekly to-do list for generative engine optimization.

## What's on the page

**Page Header**

* **Tabs:** Switches the page between the **Insights** feed and the **Content opportunities** feed.
* **Date range filter ▾:** Narrows the insights and opportunities shown below based on when they were first generated.

**Connect Integrations Banner**
If Google Search Console or Google Analytics 4 (GA4) are not connected, a banner appears at the top prompting you to connect them. If both are missing, it appears as a stack of cards you can flip through. You can dismiss this banner for your current session using the **Dismiss** (X) icon.

**Queue Progress**
At the top right of the feed, a progress bar shows how many active items you have resolved out of your current batch (e.g., "0/5 resolved" or "0/10 started"). If the queue hits its maximum limit, a **Queue full** badge appears, meaning you must clear some items before the system will generate new ones.

**Insights Tab**

* **Status filter:** A row of pills (**Open**, **Done**, **Discarded**) that lets you switch which insights you are viewing. Each pill displays the count of items in that state.
* **Insight Cards:** Each card represents a single recommendation. It includes:
  * **Impact / Effort bars:** A visual indicator (e.g., "High impact, low effort") to help you prioritize.
  * **Category badge:** Labels the type of insight (e.g., Prompt, Content, Competitor).
  * **Title & Description:** Explains what changed and why it matters.
  * **Supporting Data:** A button that flips the card to reveal the exact metrics or facts that triggered this insight.
  * **Action checklist:** A to-do list of steps required to implement the recommendation.
  * **Mark done:** A button to resolve the insight.
  * **Ask Athena:** A button that opens the AI chat side-panel with a pre-filled prompt to help you execute the task.

**Content opportunities Tab**

* **Active recommendations grid:** A grid of cards recommending new content to **Create** or existing pages to **Optimize**.
* **Opportunity Cards:** Each card displays:
  * **Score:** A numerical priority score. Hovering over this shows the tooltip: *"Score is relative across opportunities and doesn't mean much on its own. Use it to compare cards; higher scores are usually higher priority."*
  * **Status badge:** Indicates if the item is just an idea, if a "Brief ready", or if a "Draft ready".
  * **Description:** Explains "why now" (why this topic is recommended).
  * **Start / Continue:** Buttons to begin drafting or return to an in-progress draft.
* **Disclosures:** At the bottom, collapsible sections group your **Lower priority**, **Filtered out by date**, **Completed**, and **Deleted** opportunities.

## What you can do here

* **View supporting data:** Click the **Supporting Data** link on an insight card to flip it and view the raw metrics backing the recommendation. Click **Back** to return.
* **Check off action steps:** Click the checkboxes in an insight card's Action panel as you complete tasks. If you check off every item on the list, a dialog will automatically ask if you want to mark the entire insight as done.
* **Edit or add action steps:** Click directly on the text of an action step to edit it. Click **+ Add action** to write your own custom step for the checklist. Click the **×** icon that appears on hover to delete a step.
* **Resolve an insight:** Click **Mark done** to clear an insight from your Open queue and move it to the Done tab.
* **Discard an insight:** If an insight isn't useful, click the **⋯** (More actions) menu in the bottom right of the card and select **Discard**. A modal will ask you to select a reason (e.g., "Not relevant to my business", "Already addressed"). Once submitted, an 8-second toast appears with an **Undo** button in case you made a mistake.
* **Restore a discarded insight:** Go to the **Discarded** tab, click the **⋯** (More actions) menu on a card, and select **Restore** to move it back to your Open queue.
* **Start a content opportunity:** On the Content opportunities tab, click **Start** on a card. This triggers Athena to generate a brief/draft and navigates you to the Content Editor.
* **Discard a content opportunity:** On a content opportunity card, click **Discard** (or **Delete** inside the **⋯** menu for in-progress items). A modal will explain what happens to the attached content (e.g., published pieces are retained, while unused drafts are hidden from your content grid).
* **Check for new insights:** If your Open queue is empty, click the **Check for new insights** button in the empty state to manually trigger an analysis of your latest data.

## Data shown

The insights and content opportunities are generated automatically by Athena's AI recipes. The system continually reviews your tracked prompt performance, competitor shifts, search volume changes, and integration data (if connected) to find actionable signals. The queue automatically tops itself up during your scheduled data runs, up to a maximum limit.

## Common workflows

**Resolving an open insight**

1. From the **Insights** tab, review the cards in your **Open** queue.
2. Read the description and click **Supporting Data** to understand the context.
3. Check off the items in the Action checklist as you work through them.
4. Once finished, click **Mark done** (or confirm the prompt that appears when all checkboxes are ticked) to move the card to your **Done** history.

**Starting a new content opportunity**

1. Click the **Content opportunities** tab at the top of the page.
2. Review the highest-scoring "To do" cards.
3. Click **Start** on an opportunity that fits your strategy.
4. You will be automatically navigated to the Content Editor where Athena has begun drafting a brief based on the opportunity's parameters.

**Connecting missing integrations**

1. If you see the "Connect Integrations" banner at the top of the page, click **Connect Search Console** or **Connect GA4**.
2. A drawer will slide out. Click the connect button inside to launch the Google authorization popup.
3. Complete the Google login and consent flow.
4. Select your active property from the dropdown in the drawer to finalize the setup.

## Empty, loading, and error states

* **Empty:** If you have no active insights, you will see blurred placeholder cards behind a message like "No active insights." The text explains why (e.g., "The queue was full at that check...", "There were no new signals to review"). If the system is ready, a **Check for new insights** button is provided.
* **Loading:** While data is being retrieved, the page displays gray skeleton placeholders matching the shape of the insight cards.
* **Error:** If insights fail to load, a red "X" icon appears with a "Failed to load insights" message and a **Retry** button.

## Linked from / links to

* **Linked from:** The main sidebar navigation menu (**Insights**).
* **Links to:** The Ask Athena chat side-panel (via the **Ask Athena** button on cards). The Content Editor (via **Start** / **Continue** on opportunity cards). Integration settings drawers (via the banner).

## Common support questions

**Why don't I see any new insights?**
Insights are generated automatically during your regular data runs, but only if the AI finds material changes worth bringing to your attention. The empty state message on the page will tell you exactly what happened during the last check (for example, if changes were too small to act on, or if your queue is already full and needs to be cleared first).

**What happens to my drafts if I delete a content opportunity?**
When you discard or delete a content opportunity, you won't lose any completed work. Published articles and completed pieces stay visible in your Content Hub grid. Any unused, never-published drafts or briefs attached to that opportunity will be hidden from your grid to keep it clean, but they are not permanently deleted.

**Why does my insight say "Expired"?**
Insights are meant to be timely. If an insight sits in your Open queue untouched for 21 days, it automatically expires and moves to the Discarded tab so your feed stays fresh.
